‘Lookman suffered an injustice’ — Ex-Atalanta striker claims after summer transfer saga
Former Atalanta forward Nicola Ventola has described Ademola Lookman’s failed move to Inter Milan as an “injustice,” reigniting debate over the Nigerian winger’s frustrating summer.
The 27-year-old had been eager to join Inter after two impressive seasons in Bergamo, but Atalanta’s refusal to sell left him disillusioned and disappointed.
Ventola weighs in on Lookman’s failed Inter move
Speaking to Viva el Fútbol, Ventola said, “Personally, Lookman, in my opinion, is the one who suffered an injustice in the summer. After two years, there have been promises not fulfilled.”
His comments drew a quick response from pundit Lele Adani, who asked whether Ventola’s statement was fact or opinion. Ventola clarified, “Let’s say it’s my opinion, let’s say,” noting that his remarks reflected his personal perspective.
Lookman had reportedly reached a personal agreement with Inter Milan, but Atalanta rejected multiple bids, including a €45 million offer, insisting on €50 million.
Frustrated by the club’s stance, the Nigerian forward handed in a transfer request and skipped training sessions, accusing Atalanta of “broken promises” regarding his move.
Lookman speaks out after emotional standoff with Atalanta
In the heat of the saga, Lookman released a heartfelt Instagram message expressing both love for Atalanta and frustration with how things unfolded.
“Atalanta, and especially its supporters, have become a part of me. This place has felt like home from the moment I arrived, and I've always tried to repay that love – even in moments where things haven’t been easy behind the scenes,” he wrote.
He added, “Despite now receiving an offer in alignment to what I believe had been discussed, sadly, the club are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand.”
Lookman has since been reintegrated into Atalanta’s squad, returning to action in both Serie A and the UEFA Champions League, but the summer saga remains a sore chapter in his career.
