Man City set to rival Liverpool for Eagles star
Manchester City are reportedly prepared to rival Liverpool for the signing of England international centre-back Marc Guehi and might be prepared to make a move for him during the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old came close to joining Liverpool on deadline day. He has completed medicals with the Reds and was close to an unveiling before Crystal Palace backed out of the deal after their target replacement, Igor Jesus, was poached by West Ham.
The details
According to a report from The Mirror, Manchester City have registered interest in Guehi and are now one of the clubs interested in courting his services.
The Cityzens splurged on centre-backs recently, signing Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis for a combined €75 million. However, both players are youngsters, and the latter has been sent out on loan to Girona.
Manchester City are at an advantage in their pursuit to sign Guehi, however, as the centre-back is in the final year of his contract and has attracted suitors from Europe.
Given the state of his contract, suitors like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich can reach a pre-contract agreement with the Eagles star in January and acquire him as a free agent.
A fellow Premier League club like Manchester City are not allowed to do that and might have to pay a transfer fee to sign him in January to avoid losing him to European giants. However, Guehi benefits financially by signing as a free agent.
