The Heat reached a blockbuster multi-team trade with the Warriors that would send six-time All-Star forward Jimmy Butler in return for Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, and a protected first-round selection.
Dennis Schröder will also be traded by Golden State to Utah, his tenth NBA franchise, while P.J. Tucker will return to Miami through the Jazz following a one-season absence.
To complete the picture, Lindy Waters III and Josh Richardson arrive in Detroit via the Warriors and Heat, respectively.
The Heat and Toronto had reached an agreement on a trade for Anderson, but that part of the deal fell through.
Miami will now decide whether to pursue another trade or keep Anderson.
Furthermore, Butler signed a two-year, $121 million agreement with the Warriors that will keep him there through 2026–2027.
The historic transaction brings an end to a protracted ordeal in which Butler, frustrated by Miami's unwillingness to grant him the lucrative extension he desired, was suspended three times since early January, most recently for an indefinite period of time while the Heat looked for a definitive solution.
Joining his fifth team, the 35-year-old swingman will work alongside fellow seasoned veterans Stephen Curry and Draymond Green to try to get the Warriors, who are currently in 11th place in the Western Conference, back into the postseason.
