NEC a win away as Police keep chasing

National Enterprise Corporation, NEC, produced a stunning comeback to keep their chances of promotion alive as they beat Kyetume 2-1 in the StarTimes FUFA Big League.

Gideon Odong caused panic for Michael ‘Skills’ Lukyamuzi’s side when he converted the ball into his own net in the 37th minute.

Immediately, coach Lukyamuzi made a quick change to bring on Tonny Kiberu for Julius Walugembe as he looked to repair the damage but the scores remained the same into the halftime.

Experienced striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma missed a close chance in the 5oth minute and then Farouk Ssekayi’s 60th-minute goal was flagged off to pile more pressure on the Die Hards.

But as their nickname suggests, the hosts kept pressing and were lucky five minutes later when their first-half substitute Kiberu fired in the equalizer.

Ssesaazi found his footing right just when it mattered most, firing the winner with only four minutes of regulation time left as Nec moved to 54 points, one ahead of Police.

The Cops were lucky to scrap a 1-0 win away to Booma courtesy of Herman Wasswa’s 32nd-minute header.

NEC travel to Kyetume for their final match of the game as Police host Jinja North United at Kavumba.
