Finidi George's job is in jeopardy due to the NFF's decision, which comes after the national team's dismal results in recent World Cup qualifiers.
On Thursday, during an executive committee meeting with the minister of sports, the decision to appoint a foreign technical adviser was made.
The football federation are now looking at former Cameroonian coach Antonio Conceicao to qualify the Super Eagles for the World Cup.
NFF wants Conceicao
As per OGN, the NFF intends to choose Portuguese coach Antonio Conceicao as the Super Eagles technical adviser.
Conceicao left the Cameroonian role in 2022 and has not had a job since. Although he was interested in going back, he was not hired.
Following Jose Peseiro's resignation in February, Conceicao, the former head coach of Cameroon, expressed interest in taking over.
However, his interest was not acknowledged, and the NFF decided to go for a local coach in Finidi George.
The 62-year-old led Cameroon to a third-place result at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, giving him substantial experience in African football.
After two games in charge, Finidi has failed to lead the squad to victory, with a draw at home against South Africa and a loss away to the Benin Republic.
The Super Eagles' approach to their national duty has drawn criticism from the federation and fans.
However, they intend to hire a foreign technical adviser to guarantee that the Super Eagles make it to the World Cup.
