Nigeria's Handball team shows Peseiro and Super Eagles the way with Cameroon thumping
The Nigerian national men’s handball team has sent a message to their football counterparts the Super Eagles after thrashing Cameroon on Friday.
Pulse Sports Nigeria can report that the Golden Arrows defeated their opponents from Cameroon 33-25 to lift the President’s Cup.
Golden Arrows and Super Eagles
The remarkable victory came just 24 hours before the Super Eagles and Indomitable Lions of Cameroon go head-to-head in Cote d’Ivoire for a crunch round 16 clash in the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023.
The Golden team was in dominant form against their Cameroonian rivals, underlining how to beat the central African nation across sports.
With Portuguese tactician, Jose Peseiro, plotting Cameroon’s downfall at the AFCON 2023 knockouts, he may take inspiration from the ruthless display by the Nigeran handballers.
Under the guidance of Coach Rafiu Salami, the Arrows kicked off the match on a positive note, securing a tight first half with a 15-12 lead against a resilient Cameroonian defence.
The second half showcased the Golden Arrows at their very best as Nigeria served arguably its most impressive performance at the Nations Cup.
Players like Faruk Yusuf, Hakeem Salami, Daniel Bello, and Obinna Anih were some standout performers, who seized the opportunity to score crucial goals.
Their impressive performances as a unit culminated in a well-deserved big win for the Nigerian side against neighbours Cameroon.
Right-back, Faruk, deservedly earned the Most Valuable Player award after contributing significantly to Nigeria’s win and clinching of the prestigious trophy.
Ultimately, Nigeria concluded their campaign as the ninth-best team after four wins and two defeats in six matches at the Nations Cup.
Super Eagles manager, Peseiro, now knows that with the right game plan, Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions are beatable.
If the Super Eagles can replicate the Handball’s cohesion and clinical edge in front of goal, not only will that push the Eagles closer to another AFCON glory, but they could make it two wins out of two against Cameroon in 24 hours.
