Nigeria vs South Africa: Iwobi hails 'starboy' Lookman as constant threat ahead of semis
Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi has hailed the influence of in-form attacker Ademola Lookman ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations semifinal against South Africa.
Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that Iwobi has showered his talented teammate with praise as Nigeria and South Africa prepare to rekindle their rivalry when they take to the pitch later on Wednesday.
Iwobi praises Lookman
Ahead of what is easily one of the most keenly anticipated clashes at the AFCON 2023 so far, Iwobi has given flowers to Lookman, who is the Super Eagles' top scorer in the competition with three goals.
According to a report from the Athletic, Iwobi believes playing alongside the Atalanta BC man has made him appreciate his talents even more.
The Fulham playmaker waxed lyrical about his Super Eagles teammate, describing him as a "threat all the time" with his ability to find space and run at defenses.
“Playing with him, you appreciate him more,” Iwobi, who has played deeper for Nigeria in Ivory Coast, said per the report. “He is a threat all the time.”
With Nigeria aiming to book a spot in the final, Iwobi labeled Lookman the "star boy", highlighting his emergence as a key player.
“He can receive the ball between the lines or make a run in behind,’ he added. “Look at him, the star boy.”
Lookman's pace, movement and clinical finishing have made him Nigeria's dangerman in the tournament.
The Serie A star currently leads the charts for chances created, assists and goals for the Super Eagles in Cote d’Ivoire.
As Nigeria and South Africa face off in what is a repeat of that clash in the 2019 AFCON in Egypt, Lookman will be the centre of attention from Nigerians alongside partner, Victor Osimhen.
