The injury has left Boniface on crutches and unable to play for the rest of the year, a big loss given his status as the club's top scorer this season with six goals.

However, Schick's performance turned the tide for the defending champions in a blistering second half display by Alonso’s men.

After Exequiel Palacios pulled one back, Schick levelled the score before halftime and then added two more goals in the second half, including a powerful header that sealed the win.

His hattrick not only highlighted his capabilities but also showed his determination to secure more playing time after expressing frustration over limited opportunities earlier in the season.

In addition to Schick's heroics, Boniface’s compatriot at the club Nathan Tella also made a notable impact after coming off the bench to replace Jeremy Frimpong.

Xhaka wrapped things up for Leverkusen.

Tella provided an assist for Granit Xhaka’s goal and was instrumental in maintaining Leverkusen's attacking momentum, finishing the match with impressive statistics: 90% pass accuracy, one chance created, and winning all his tackles.

This victory is crucial for Leverkusen as they aim to close the gap on league leaders Bayern Munich who thrashed Frank Onyeka’s Augsburg.
