The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, is set to resume after a break that allowed former champions Rivers United to catch up with the rest of the league.

With just eight matches remaining, the 2023/24 campaign has shaped up to be one of the most competitive and closely contested seasons in recent memory.

NPFL Standings: Tight at both ends

After 32 matches played, the league table is tightly packed, with as many as seven teams still in contention for the title. 

Current leaders Rangers International sit atop the standings with 57 points, just one point ahead of second-placed Remo Stars, Enyimba (53 points) and Shooting Stars (52 points) complete the top four.

The break was necessitated by Rivers United's involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup, which saw them play four outstanding matches. 

The Pride of Rivers will play their final match against Niger Tornadoes on Sunday, paving the way for the rest of the league to resume next weekend.

Flying Antelopes, Rangers, Remo, Enyimba, and Shooting Stars will all be vying for the top spot, while the battle to avoid relegation is also heating up with eight matches to play. 

The intriguing storylines at the other end mean Sunshine Stars, Akwa United, Heartland, and Gombe United are all fighting to secure their top-flight status.

The anticipated run-in promises to be a thrilling affair, with teams jostling for the coveted league title and the fight for survival at the bottom of the table.
