The mother of Obafemi Martins was brought up by veteran journalist David Hundeyin.
He brought up her death as far back as 2008 in response to a statement that said, "Leaving Nigeria was hard but Thank God I left.

"Someone fainted on the road near my nephews school & in a blind of an eye, two ambulances showed.

Hundeyin highlighted health challenges in the country in response using the death of Martins' mother.
He said, "Obafemi Martins played top flight football in Italy, England, Spain, Germany, US and China, plus 3 AFCONs and a World Cup.
"There was nothing his mom wanted that he did not do for her.
"She died of smoke inhalation when a petrol tanker caught fire near her car in Lagos traffic."
