Osimhen fires Napoli to Serie A milestone

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has helped Napoli to another Serie A record after scoring in Napoli’s first home win of the new Italian top-flight season.

Osimhen opened the scoring as Napoli cruised to a 2-0 home win over Sassuolo, netting his third goal of the 2023/24 season.

The Partenopei hero, who finished as Serie A’s top scorer last season, scored from the penalty spot after only 15 minutes to give his side the lead against Sassuolo as Napoli joined AC Milan and Hellas Verona at the top of the Serie A table with six points from their opening two Serie A games.

The win over Sassuolo helped Napoli continue a superb streak of home wins, breaking a club record in the process.

Beating Sassuolo 2-0 meant that Napoli have now won their first home game of the season for the eighth time in a row, a streak that started with a 4-2 win over AC Milan in August 2016.

This is a new record for the reigning Serie A champions, who have started their home campaign with a win more times than at any point in the team’s history.

Napoli have made the perfect start to their title defence after securing two wins from two but will face their first real test next weekend when they host Lazio looking to increase their streak to three wins from three.
