Rasheedat Ajibade addresses injury, form and positioning after Botswana clash
The Super Falcons won their second game in the WAFCON without a goal involvement from Rasheedat Ajibade, leading to questions about her fitness and form; the former Atletico Madrid star has now provided some insights into her conditioning and positioning.
Ajibade in her fitness
Ajibade has been the best player, performer and captain of the Super Falcons for the past few years. However, she has been underwhelming in the competition so far.
After the game against Botswana, a reporter noted that she had looked off the boil, questioning her fitness. However, Ajibade said that she had a clean bill of health.
"I don't have any injuries. I'm 100% fit,” she said, per Ademola Victor. “I'm doing what I can do to the best of my ability, and I will keep pushing because for me, it's an honour and a huge, huge responsibility for me to play for the national team."
Ajibade on her positioning
There were also questions about the positions she occupied during the game against Botswana, and she explained that flexibility was ingrained in Coach Madugu’s game plan.
"Not that I'm playing as a free player. We have a game plan,” she said. “I and my teammates, we have this connection between ourselves that we just have to be flexible players on the field.
“We don't have to be static because the most important thing is how to break the opponent's defence... So it's all about flexibility."
