‘Really surprise me’ - Declan Rice stunned by the quality Arsenal centre-back pairing possesses

Arsenal thrashed Newcastle United at the Emirate Stadium 4-1 as they continue their chase for the Premier League title.

Declan Rice who had a solid performance in the game also created an assist for his team as they sealed a comfortable victory.

However, the performance did not just happen without the solidity of the defensive pairing of Saliba and Gabriel which Declan Rice pointed out.

Rice was surprised to see the quality Gabriel and Saliba possess which puts them amongst the best defenders in the league.

Rice, who moved to Arsenal in the summer of 2023 from West Ham United to Arsenal has seen the qualities of the French defender and Brazilian internationals.

Rice said, as reported by Fabrizio on X, “I think that Saliba has been unbelievable, obviously I heard all the talk of him before I came here.

"But the one that really surprised me is actually Gabriel. He's so aggressive, so strong, really wants it all the time, never loses a duel. Top!".

The England international has hailed both players for their contribution to the progress of the team as they push for success this season.

Arsenal has scored 25 goals in six games since the turn of the year and have the best defensive record this season, conceding only 23 goals.
