Roland Garros: Coco Gauff reveals Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone as one of her role models outside of Tennis

Following an exceptional win at the Roland Garros to claim her second Grand Slam title, Coco Gauff has revealed how she draws inspiration from Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone as one of her role models outside of Tennis.

Gauff defeated world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in a three-set thriller of 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 to become the first American player to win a singles title at the French Open since the legendary Serena Williams (2015). She also became the youngest American to achieve the feat since her decorated compatriot in 2002.

Speaking at the press conference after her mesmerizing victory, the 21-year-old disclosed how she has a fighting spirit and keeps a positive mindset.

"The fighting spirit is something that I think that you know I've had naturally, but trying to be more positive is something that I had to work on. And I'm really happy with how I'm able to reset and be positive and try my best to give the best mentality to show up," said the 2023 US Open champion on coming back from a set down to win the title.

Further commenting on the sports stars that motivate her in this regard, Gauff revealed she draws inspiration from track queen and multiple world record holder McLaughlin-Levrone.

"People from other sports that I've looked up to, Sydney McLaughlin is someone that I really like and look up to in that way. Simone Biles, I think she just pushes herself," she said.

McLaughlin-Levrone is a highly respected hurdler, who is unarguably the greatest ever in the event. She's unbeaten in the women's 400mH since 2022, has broken her world record on multiple occasions, and she is a two-time Olympic gold medallist.
