Royal Giants to battle for shs1.1bn in South Africa

CAF has revealed that the 2023 African Schools Football Championship grand finals will be held in Durban, South Africa from April 5-8th.

The Confederation had earlier announced that the finals would be staged in Egypt but the new development means that the eight regional champions will tussle in Durban.

CAF General Secretary, Véron Mosengo-Omba, said that the continental body arrived at the decision after consultations.

“Following extensive consultation that also included inviting Member Associations to submit applications to host, South Africa’s Durban was given the go-ahead,” Omba explained CAF’s decision.

“We have a lot of confidence that we will work together with SAFA,  the South African Government and KwaZulu Natal to ensure that this is a success,” he added.

The tournament was divided into three parts; the national, regional and continental qualifiers.

Royal Giants from Mityana will represent CECAFA after emerging as national and regional winners. The tournament is an initiative of CAF President Patrice Motsepe whose Motsepe Foundation pumped up to $10 million as sponsorship.

The champion will win $300,000 (Shs.1.11 billion) while the respective runners-up will take home $200,000 and $150,000.
