SC Villa to Retire Jersey Number 15 in Tribute to Fallen Captain David Owori

Ugandan Premier League club SC Villa has announced the retirement of the number 15 jersey as a tribute to their late captain, David "Colgate" Owori.

The defender tragically passed away at Case Hospital in Kampala after being attacked by assailants on his way home on Tuesday evening.

The club officially confirmed the decision to retire Owori's jersey number during a requiem mass held at St Peter’s Catholic Church in Nsambya on Thursday. "Jersey 15 to be retired. RIP Colgate," the club stated on its social media channels.

Owori was a key figure in the SC Villa squad that secured a record-extending 17th league title in the 2023/24 season.

He also led the team to victory in the FUFA Super 8 trophy last season and played in the opening match of the current series, a 1-1 draw against Maroons on Saturday.

Born on September 28, 1998, in Tororo, Owori grew up in Kampala's Makindye division. His football journey began at Nsambya Young Academy and Lukuli United before he joined eight-time league champions Vipers SC in 2016.

His career also included a spell with Proline FC before his initial tenure at SC Villa from 2018 to 2021. He later played in Europe for Velez CF in Spain and Utsiktens BK in Sweden, eventually rejoining SC Villa in 2023.

The late captain will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Makunga, Tororo District.
