S.C Villa's Magera wary of stubborn Blacks Power as title race goes to the wire
With two match days left to wrap up the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, record league champions SC Villa who remain in contention to win the league, can't afford a slip-up.
The Joogos are level with KCCA FC and Vipers on 49 points and next host relegation-threatened Blacks Power on Tuesday afternoon.
Head coach Jackson Magera says it's another opportunity to keep in the title race.
"Blacks Power is a tough team; they want to survive, so they will be confident and will give it everything, but we have to focus mentally," Magera told Pulse Sports.
"We have to be organized and calm during the most important points of the game, when we have the ball and when we don't have it,” Magera added.
The record league champions won't be the only title contenders in action, with KCCA FC and Vipers SC also playing away on the day.
But the soft-spoken tactician says what matters is his side winning each game at a time.
"Yes, I acknowledge that the three of us are in contention, but we don't want to think about that; our goal is to win each game that comes by, basically play our part,” Magera noted.
Second from bottom, Blacks Power needs a win as they continue their fight to avoid the drop; Hussein Mbalangu's side is on 23 points, four behind 13-placed Busoga United.
Winning their final two games with Busoga losing one would guarantee their safety.
Forward Seif Batte scored the game's only goal in the first meeting when both sides met in Lira.
Jackson Magera's side is looking to win their first league title in 18 years, having last claimed the league in 2004; They face URA FC in the final game.
