Seyi Makinde: Oyo State Governor celebrates Shooting Stars NPFL standing, bounces back from US Open reaction

There is news about Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

The governor is trending on social media for his latest involvement with Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Shooting Stars.

Makinde attended as Shooting Stars beat Sporting Lagos 1-0 in a southwest NPFL derby.

It was their final game of the season, and the victory meant Shooting Stars finished fourth.

The governor took to social media to celebrate their achievements.

He said, "This afternoon, we were at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba to cheer our darling Shooting Stars Sports Club to a 1-0 victory against Sporting Lagos in their final match of the season.

"It was a full stadium, thanks to our supporters who continue to encourage our 3SC through thick and thin.

"The full attendance at these matches validates our position that we can stimulate our economy through sports development.

"The team has made considerable progress in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), finishing in fourth place this season compared to last season.

"As it is, there is room for the team to accomplish even more and we will go back to the drawing board to work towards our goal of qualifying for continental championships next season."

Just last year, Makinde departed the state house in Oyo State Nigeria for the United States of America (USA).

The Oyo State Governor stated that he was in attendance to watch Serbian Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff win the Men's and Women's single events.

He took to his official social media platforms to celebrate his attendance at the US Open.

He posted photos with family and friends at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York to watch the US Open final.

After posting images of himself attending the competition on his social media platforms, the governor courted the wrath of several Nigerians.

The feedback from Nigerians about Makinde's travel was mostly negative.

Some residents of Oyo State stated that there are no such Tennis tournaments or infrastructure provided by Governor Makinde for Tennis and could not understand why the Governor would spend taxpayer's money on an extravagant outing.

However, his involvement with Shooting Stars in the NPFL has received praise on social media.
