Sha'Carri Richardson: World champion set for heavyweight clash with Thompson-Herah at Zurich Diamond League
Following her phenomenal performance at the World Championships in Budapest, Sha'Carri Richardson is poised for another heavyweight race with Elaine Thompson-Herah at the Zurich Diamond League on August 31st.
Richardson heroically won the 100m world title in Budapest in a Championship Record (CR) of 10.65s, defeating Jamaica's race favourite Shericka Jackson (10.72s) and defending champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.77s) in the process.
Not dwelling on her feat, the American speedster won a bronze medal in the 200m final and impressively anchored her country to 4x100m relay gold to cap off her outstanding debut at the World Championships.
This time in Zurich, she will face another Jamaican heavyweight Thompson-Herah, the reigning double Olympic champion.
Richardson will be gunning to extend her 100m winning streak against the Jamaicans, but won't find it easy against the multiple world and Olympic medallist, who may be in better shape than she was before the Jamaican trials, where she failed to make the 100m team.
Other athletes making up the stacked field are compatriots Twanisha Terry and Tamara Clark, Budapest finalist Ewa Swoboda, Jamaican duo of Sashalee Forbes and Natasha Morrison, Great Britain's Daryll Neita, and Swiss star Mujinga Kamnundji.
