The trio initially made the 11 nominee list, and Richardson was tipped as a fan's favourite to win but has now missed out.

Therefore, Ethiopia's Tigist Assefa, Vanezuela's Yulimar Rojas, and Dutch speedster Femke Bol complete the five finalists as announced by World Athletics.

These five athletes represent five countries from four area associations and have achieved sensational performances across a range of athletics disciplines in 2023, winning titles and breaking world records at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, one-day meeting circuits, Label road races, and other global events.

The winners will be announced on World Athletics platforms on December 11 as part of the 2023 World Athletics Awards.
