Super Eagles icon Nwankwo Kanu demands title-hungry warriors after ruthlessly swinging axe on 22 players
Super Eagles legend Nwankwo Kanu has made a bold statement of intent as he ruthlessly overhauled Enyimba’s squad, releasing 22 players in a decisive move aimed at restoring the People’s Elephant to their former title-winning glory ahead of the new NPFL season.
Nigeria’s most successful football club announced the departure of a large chunk of their roster on their website, including recently retired AFCON 2013 winner Brown Ideye.
The club expressed gratitude for the players’ contributions and wished them success in their future endeavours.
While this sweeping squad purge sparked some controversy and backlash among fans and pundits, Kanu, who chairs Enyimba, is under no illusions about what the club needs, players who are hungry, committed, and ready to fight for every trophy.
“We have revamped this team for one purpose – to win,” Kanu stated. “Enyimba must always aim for glory.”
“Every player, new or old, has to give their best in every game because when the club shines, it also reflects positively on your own career and personal glory.”
Kanu’s commitment to success is matched by his promise of strong support from the club’s management.
“As a management, we are ready to play our part. We will ensure you get what is due to you. All we ask in return is that you go out, play with passion, play with positivity, and deliver results for Enyimba and for yourselves.”

This ruthless squad overhaul signals Enyimba’s determination to bounce back from an underwhelming season that saw them finish sixth and miss out on CAF competitions from last season.
With Kanu firmly ready to reposition nine-time NPFL winners for glory, the People’s Elephant are clearly ready to roar again and mount a serious title challenge in the 2025/26 NPFL campaign.
