Tamale the hero as Maroons snatch point at Gaddafi

Maroons escaped from Jinja with a point after forcing Gaddafi to a goalless draw at the Kakindu Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

The two sides started slowly with almost nothing to write about their lifeless first.

The first real chance of the game presented to the hosts after the half-hour. Kitaka dribbled his way through the right, cut in and then laid a fine cross to find Brian Kalumba umarked in the enemy's territory but he headed wide.

Maroons had a chance of their own after good interplay between Ceasar Olega and Brian Nkuubi but Solomon Walusimbi, unmarked inside the box failed to make something out of it.

Better second-half

The introduction of Joel Madondo and John Byamukama breathed some life into the game after the break.

Six minutes later, Byamukama collected a cross from Alex Kitata, shed off Fredrick Kigozi and curled one to the far post to force Simon Tamale to stretch to keep it out for a corner.

Sadiq Ssekyembe delivered the kick with a well-weighted cross to the blind side to find Latif Kiyemba but his free-header bounced off the crossbar on it's way out.

Byamukama found his way again and laid a pass for Kitata only for the striker to arrive late on duty.

Wasted chances

Madondo had his chance with 15 minutes but his header off Sekyembe's corner kick, was cleared off the line.

Maroons turned the guns the other side and could have gone ahead only for Walusimbi to waste a 1-on-1 opportunity.

Gaddafi's late substitute Amos Kirya also got his chance after pouncing on Tamale's poor clearance but delayed to charge into the box.

The Soldier Boys came close again as Kitata loaded a powerful shot from inside the box but Tamale, again, produced a spectacular save that sealed his man-of-the-match award.

Gaddafi retain their 11th position but move to 30 points as Maroons close the top five with 37 points.
