The Bundesliga giants are enduring a dismal season, sitting uncomfortably in the bottom half of the table, and the pressure is mounting to make drastic changes.

Dortmund's struggles and Sahin’s Final Chance

Borussia Dortmund's season has spiralled downward, with three consecutive defeats since returning from the mid-season break.

Losses to Holstein Kiel, Bayer Leverkusen, and Eintracht Frankfurt have left Nuri Sahin, the club’s 36-year-old head coach, on the brink of unemployment.

Tuesday's Champions League clash against Bologna is viewed as a pivotal moment for Sahin, and club officials have reportedly set clear expectations: a positive result is essential for the young manager to retain his position.

Lars Ricken, a prominent figure in the Dortmund hierarchy, confirmed this sentiment, stating, “Nuri will be on the bench against Bologna, but of course, we all know that; Nuri knows that too, with the clear expectation that we now simply need victories and successes.”

Ten Hag poised to step in

Reports suggest that Erik ten Hag, who has been without a managerial role since parting ways with Manchester United, is in pole position to replace Sahin.

The Dutch tactician, known for his success at Ajax, and struggles in Manchester, is said to have been in Dortmund's plans for weeks, functioning as a "shadow coach" in anticipation of a managerial change.

With Sandro Wagner and Roger Schmidt ruling themselves out of contention, Ten Hag appears to be the leading candidate to take the reins.

A decision could be made as early as Wednesday if Dortmund fail to secure a positive result against Bologna.
