According to The Athletic, United, who had been ttacking the goalkeeper for long have decided to sign the youngster instead of Aston villa's Argentine Emiliano Martinez, who had also been contacted on Sunday.
It is believed the overall price and the ease of negotiations for the Lammens deal made it more feasible compared to Martinez, who would have cost United double the price of the Belgium goalkeeper, whose dral will not include a sell-on clause.
United are now set to make a decision on whether to release one of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, who have not covered themselves in glory this season following some high-profile mistakes.
Lammens will likely be thrown into the deep end when the Premier League resumes after the international breal, spelling the beginning of the end for Onana, who is likely to become a bit-part player.
