Armand “Mondo” Duplantis once again redefined the limits of pole vaulting, clearing a staggering 6.30m to win gold and set a new world record at the Tokyo World Championships. 

The Swedish superstar, already regarded as the greatest vaulter in history, defended his world title in breathtaking fashion against one of the deepest fields ever assembled.

The final lived up to its billing as one of the most competitive in championship history, with seven men clearing 5.90m and pushing the event to unprecedented heights.

Duplantis opened his campaign confidently, soaring past his early heights before locking horns with Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis, who produced a career-defining performance. 

Karalis held his nerve at 6.00m, a mark no one else could match, to clinch silver and confirm his status among the sport’s elite.

Behind them, Australia’s Kurtis Marschall equaled his personal best at 5.95m to secure the bronze medal. American Sam Kendricks, also clearing 5.95m with a season’s best, narrowly missed the podium on countback.

France’s Thibaut Collet, Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen, and the Netherlands’ Menno Vloon all cleared 5.90m, underlining the extraordinary standard of competition.

When the bar was raised to 6.30m, all eyes turned to Duplantis. On his first attempt, he sailed over with trademark composure and precision, sending the Tokyo crowd into raptures as the scoreboard confirmed a new world record.
