Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott produced a sensational throw of 88.16m to clinch gold in the men’s javelin final at the Tokyo World Championships on Thursday. Walcott, who saved his best for the fourth round, threw a season’s best to fend off stiff competition from reigning champion Anderson Peters of Grenada.
Peters took silver with 87.38m, while Curtis Thompson of the USA secured bronze thanks to a huge 86.67m effort in his opening attempt.
India’s Sachin Yadav delivered the performance of his life with a personal-best 86.27m, narrowly missing the podium in fourth, while Germany’s Julian Weber (86.11m) rounded out the top five.

Yego’s Brave Effort Ends in Agony
Julius Yego had to pull out in the final of the javelin throw at the ongoing Tokyo World Championships after rolling his ankle during his second attempt, where he threw an impressive 85.54.

Kenya’s Julius Yego, the 2015 world champion, rekindled hopes of another medal with a strong second-round throw of 85.54m, which briefly kept him in contention. However, tragedy struck shortly after, as Yego was forced to abandon the competition following what appeared to be a muscle injury.
The 35-year-old did not take any further attempts after the third round, sparking heartbreak for Kenyan fans who had hoped to see their “YouTube Man” return to the global podium.
India’s Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra could only manage 84.03m for eighth place, while Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem finished 10th with 82.75m, in a highly competitive field that saw six men throw over 85m.
