Uganda Cranes Prospect Commits to Manchester City with New Long-Term Deal

Promising young midfielder Divine Mukasa has signed a contract extension with Manchester City, securing his future at the club until the summer of 2030.

The 18-year-old, who arrived from West Ham in September 2023, has made a significant impact since joining the club.

The Ugandan prospect was a key figure in the team that lifted the FA Youth Cup and played a pivotal role as City's Under-18s clinched the Premier League North title, contributing an impressive 42 goal involvements in 41 appearances.

Mukasa's rapid development saw him break into Pep Guardiola's first-team squad last season, where he made six appearances. He marked his senior debut with an assist for Phil Foden during a Carabao Cup match against Huddersfield Town.

To gain further experience, he spent the latter half of the season on loan at Leicester City, though the Foxes were ultimately relegated to League One.

Reflecting on his new contract, Mukasa expressed his optimism for the future. "I am really excited to see what the future has in store for me," he said.

"I have learned so much since the day I arrived at the club from players and staff alike. The experiences I have gained have definitely bettered me as a player and a person."

He added, "With this said, I can only use the environment to continue to progress. My taste of first-team football at City earlier last season has only furthered my ambition to compete at the highest level."

Divine Mukasa was born in London to a multicultural family, consisting of a Lithuanian mother and a Ugandan father, Sam Mukasa.

Through his strong paternal heritage, the technical midfielder maintains deep roots in Uganda. Despite his eligibility to represent the Uganda Cranes internationally, Mukasa has primarily committed to the England national team at the youth level.

Even so, his rising profile serves as an immense inspiration for a new generation of diaspora athletes and local youth aspiring to reach the global stage.
