Uganda Cranes Striker Sends Strong Message to Gor Mahia Fans Over Goal Expectations

Uganda Cranes striker Denis Omedi has declared he is prepared to handle the high expectations at Gor Mahia after completing his transfer to the Kenyan champions ahead of the upcoming season.

The 30-year-old forward joins K'Ogalo from Rwandan powerhouse APR FC as the club bolsters its squad for a demanding campaign that includes the Kenyan Premier League, the domestic cup, the CECAFA Club Championship, and the CAF Champions League.

Omedi acknowledged the weight of expectation from the passionate Gor Mahia fanbase and affirmed his commitment to delivering what he was signed for: goals.

"The fans know me for scoring goals, not for providing assists or defending," Omedi stated as quoted New Vision Sports. "They expect goals from me, and it is now upon me to work even harder and score more and more goals."

The Ugandan international expressed confidence that his extensive experience playing for both club and country has prepared him for the intense environment at one of East Africa's most prominent clubs.

"I have played for clubs and the national team where there is a lot of pressure. That environment is not new to me," he explained. "As a professional, you just have to do what you are known for."

Rather than being intimidated, Omedi sees pressure as a catalyst for peak performance. "Pressure cannot stop you. It brings out the best in you," he remarked. "Just like a rose gives its best scent after being pressed, pressure pushes you to become even better."

Omedi is coming off a stellar 2023/24 season with Kitara FC, where he netted 15 goals in the Uganda Premier League, helped the club secure its first-ever Uganda Cup, and scored twice in the CAF Confederation Cup.

His impressive form led to a move to APR FC last season before he ultimately secured his transfer to Gor Mahia.
