Ugandan Boxers Go Missing in Scotland After Commonwealth Games

Four members of Uganda's boxing team have reportedly disappeared in Scotland following the conclusion of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The missing athletes have been identified as Angel Katushabe, Nuhu Batte, Ibrahim Khemis and Emily Nakalema. The group was part of a six-person boxing squad representing Uganda at the Games. They allegedly did not join the rest of the national delegation for their scheduled flight back to Uganda on Tuesday, August 4.

Officials are currently working to locate the athletes and ascertain the circumstances surrounding their disappearance.

According to Team Uganda officials, the Ministry of Education and Sports is preparing to release an official statement regarding the incident.

A source claiming to be one of the boxers, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, stated that the group plans to seek asylum to advance their boxing careers abroad. The source cited the availability of superior training facilities and more significant opportunities as their motivation.

However, these claims remain unverified, and authorities have not yet officially confirmed the athletes' location or their intentions.
