Umar Sadiq, Barcelona party and 3 other reasons LaLiga is where to be this weekend
FC Barcelona have been crowned the champions of LaLiga for the 2022/2023 season.
The Catalans sealed the title last Sunday after a six-goal thriller against Espanyol in the Catalan derby.
Xavi Hernandez and his boys overcame their city rivals 4-2 to dethrone bitter rivals Real Madrid.
But while Barca have wrapped up the title, there is still a lot to play for with four matches to go.
Here are four reasons why you should follow the LaLiga this season.
Sevilla vs Real Betis - El Gran Derbi
The battle for European football will heat this weekend with the El Gran Derbi the peak of the pack.
Europa League giant Sevilla will go head-to-head with Real Betis as both clubs continue to push for a place in Europe.
This game is slated for Sunday night with the city of Seville to be agog as these two rivals clash.
Betis are currently sixth on the log while Sevilla are four players further down the table.
But with other teams breathing down the Betis’ neck in the run-in, this particular match is important for both sides and most especially as this is a derby.
Expect an explosive battle in the city of Seville.
Barcelona title party and Umar Sadiq return
Barcelona will return to the Spotify Camp Nou for the first time since they sealed the LaLiga title.
Barca defeated Espanyol 4-2 last Sunday to wrap things up and will return home to celebrate with their fans.
The Catalans will be in a party mood but will also want to celebrate when they welcome a tricky Real Sociedad side.
Sociedad could turn out to be party spoilers with Super Eagles star Umar Sadiq set to return.
Sadiq could be in the matchday squad and get some minutes for the first time since September 11, 2022.
Relegation dogfight
The matchday starts at Andalusia with an important relegation fight between Cadiz and Babatunde Akinsola's Real Valladolid.
These two clubs are deep in the danger zone and are looking to escape in what is a crucial relegation head-to-head.
The teams are currently 16th and 17th on the table, with just a point separating both clubs on the table and from the red zone.
This fixture also takes a special place given that manager of the home side, Sergio Gonzalez, used to manage their visitors Valladolid.
European rat race
Finally, it’s the race for Europe again, this time, with another Nigeria Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze involved.
Chukwueze and his Villarreal side chasing Champions League football are in for a difficult after as they travel to Girona.
The Yellow Submarines are fifth, five points away from the final Champions League spot while Girona are also looking to make it to Europe with the club seventh.
Athletic Club and Osasuna are two sides in the European rat race looking to improve their chances.
Athletic take on Celta Vigo at home while Osasuna have a difficult trip to Atletico Madrid.
Here is a look at the full fixtures in an action-packed weekend in the LaLiga.
