URA FC bid farewell to Uganda Cranes goalkeeper
URA FC have said their goodbyes to long-serving goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi following his transfer to Ethiopia.
The Uganda Cranes custodian has joined Ethiopian top-tier side Mekelakeya SC on a one-year contract.
"Goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi has officially left URA FC," the club announced Thursday afternoon.
"The move ends his seven-year stay with us, having joined in 2016 from Onduparaka FC," a short statement on the club website revealed.
The 27-year-old has been a big part of URA's performances in the past six seasons and was the team captain by the time of his departure.
The Tax Collectors have already sought Alionzi's replacements, with former Express FC goalkeeper Denis Otim and Arua Hill SC's Rogers Omedwa coming in to fill the void.
Otim put up a solid performance in the FUFA Super 8 Tournament semi-final clash with KCCA FC, saving Moses Waiswa's penalty to help URA to a 2-1 victory.
"Everyone at URA FC would like the thank you Mr. Safe hands for all the memories at the club, including your leadership and discipline. We wish you all the Best of luck at your new home."
