Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen is a notably omission from the nominees for the 2025 Ballon d'Or.

The official Ballon d'Or account revealed the nominees for the award on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

The Nigerian striker currently plying his trade with Galatasaray was a notable absence from the list.

Osimhen, a former Serie A champion with Napoli was widely expected by many fans to feature on the list.

On loan from Napoli last season, Osimhen propelled Galatasaray that made them make a massive move for him.

He led Galatasaray to win the Turkish League and Cup in his debut season as they won in style.

Despite these individual and team achievements, the Ballon d'Or selection selected players from Europe's top five leagues (Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1).

Reigning Champions League winners PSG have eight players, Barcelona have four same as Liverpool.

There are three African players on the list Achraf Hakimi, Mohammed Salah and Serhou Guirassy.

2025 Ballon d'Or Nominees

Jude Bellingham, Ousmane Dembélé, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Désiré Doué, Deniz Dumfríes, Serhou Guirassy, Viktor Gyökeres, Erling Haaland, Achraf Hakimi and Harry Kane.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Robert Lewandowski, Alexis Mac Allister, Lautaro Martínez, Kylian Mbappé, Scott McTominay, Nuno Mendes, João Neves and Michael Olise.

Others are Cole Palmer, Pedri, Raphinha, Declan Rice, Fabián Ruiz, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Vinícius Jr, Vitinha, Florian Wirtz and Lamine Yamal.
