Villa continues steady rise, as Soltilo Bright Stars, Mbarara pick massive victories
Uganda Premier League record holders SC Villa continued their ascendence on the table after a dominant victory against ten-man UPDF FC on Tuesday.
A brace from Jonah Patrick Kakande and one from Hakim Kiwanuka ensured that the Jogoo picked an invaluable three points at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
UPDF was hard-done by an early sending-off of goalkeeper Yusuf Wasswa, who was penalized for handling the ball from outside the box.
Following the result, Villa moved third on the 16-team log with 25 points after 14 games.
They will wrap up the second round with a visit to URA FC at the Mehta Stadium, Lugazi, on Sunday.
Meanwhile, UPDF's misery continues as they sit 15th in the relegation zone with nine points out of a possible 42.
In more action on the day, Soltilo Bright Stars FC moved ninth on the log after a narrow 1-0 win over Maroons FC, thanks to a John Kokas goal.
In ninth, Bright Stars boast 18 points, while Maroons descended to fourth with 25 points.
While Bright Stars will round off the first round with a trip to Kitara on Friday, the Prison Warders will host UPDF on the same day.
Elsewhere, Joseph Akandanwaho and Henry Kitegenyi were on target to hand Mbarara City FC a 2-1 win over Wakiso Giants FC, who netted through Tom Masiko.
