WAFCON: Super Falcons ready for 'no room for error' against Zambia - Magudu

Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has declared his team mentally, psychologically, and tactically ready for their high-stakes quarter-final clash against Zambia’s Copper Queens in the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The quarterfinal knockout fixture will take placeon  Friday at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco, as Nigeria aim to continue their quest for a record-extending 10th continental title.

Despite topping their group, the Super Falcons have come under criticism for underwhelming performances in the group stage. In contrast, the Copper Queens have impressed with their attacking flair, powered by star forwards Barbara Banda and Racheal Kundananji, both of whom have already netted three goals apiece in the tournament.

Coach Madugu, however, remains confident his team is prepared for the challenge ahead.

“We are working on our strategies offensively and defensively, having watched Zambia play and having taken note of their strengths and weaknesses individually and collectively,” Madugu told NFF.

He acknowledged the threats posed by Zambia’s key players but emphasised that his squad has been thoroughly briefed and is fully motivated.

“There will be no room for errors. We must be alert at all times, have self-belief, and be motivated to achieve victory as we get close to the accomplishment of Mission X,” he said.

Victory on Friday will propel Nigeria into the semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the quarter-final between reigning champions South Africa and Senegal.
