Wayne Rooney scores stunning free-kick as Celtic legends beat Manchester United Legends
On Sunday, September 7, 2024, Manchester United Legends and Celtic Legends squared off in an annual charity match at Old Trafford.
The Manchester United Foundation will get any proceeds from the match between the group of United icons and their Celtic counterparts.
Under the direction of United legend Bryan Robson, the team assembled a roster of elite players that includes Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Carrick, Antonio Valencia, and Paul Scholes.
Charlie Mulgrew, Georgios Samaras, Gary Hooper, and Stiliyan Petrov were among the players on Celtic Legends' roster, led by former Aston Villa and Norwich City manager Paul Lambert.

Wayne Rooney gave Manchester United the lead in the 42nd minute with a curled free kick from outside the box during a scoreless first half.
Following an uncharacteristically bad pass from Nicky Butt that gave Celtic an opportunity they absolutely ought to have taken, Stiliyan Petrov was given too much time to make the play, which allowed Gary Hooper to level.
Hooper canceled out Rooney's first-half free kick after 90 minutes, forcing a penalty shootout to decide the match.
Celtic legends would go on to win 5-4 in the penalty shoot out.
