We can end their record — Super Falcons coach pumps chest ahead of South Africa clash
Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu is confident in his side's ability to defeat defending champions South Africa ahead of their WAFCON semi-final clash, despite the air of invincibility around Bayana Bayana in the competition.
Desiree Elis’s girls won the last edition of the competition and have been unbeaten at the WAFCON in regular time since 2018. Still, Madugu believes his team are well set up to reach the final.
Madugu raves about Falcons
While their underwhelming showing in the group stages sparked doubts in Nigeria's chances of winning their 10th Cup of Nations, their performance in the 5-0 drubbing of Zambia in the quarter-finals inspired confidence.
Madugu said his team are well prepared and expressed his belief that they can end South Africa’s impressive 14-game run of avoiding defeat in regular time at the WAFCON.
“The preparations are good, the girls have been very committed, determined; they are in good shape; they are well prepared,” Madugu told reporters.
“Yes, South Africa have not lost a game within regulation time since 2018. But records are meant to be broken. No matter how long it takes, one day it will be broken. And we are hoping that by tomorrow, by the grace of God, that record will no longer exist.”
The match will kick off at 5 PM Nigerian time and be broadcast live on SuperSport (DStv) across Sub-Saharan Africa and on SABC Sport.
