Uganda Lady Rugby Cranes finished third at the 2023 Rugby Africa Women’s 7s Tournament held over the weekend in Tunisia.

Charles Onen’s charges left the stage on a high with a 29-10 win over Zambia handing them bronze.

The game came after a one-sided 27-00 defeat at the hands of neighbours Kenya in the semi-final.

Having left Uganda with a goal of winning the Africa 7s to clinch a direct ticket to next year’s Olympics, the Cranes were unable to actualise that dream.

It was, however, crucial that the team finish in the top three to keep their hopes alive.

A third-place finish was enough to keep the Olympic Games dream alive.

The team will have another shot at qualifying through the Repechage tournament scheduled for next year.

The Repechage tournament is expected to be played between April and May, before the Olympics scheduled for July and August.
