World Athletics Championships: A Review of the Events So Far

The first half of the championships has been nothing short of spectacular, with new champions being crowned across the track and field.

The first day set the tone with Beatrice Chebet powering to a masterful victory in the women's 10,000m, delivering Kenya’s first gold.

On the roads, Evan Dunfee of Canada and María Pérez of Spain secured the first gold medals in the gruelling 35km race walk.

The second day was all about the sprints. Jamaica's Oblique Seville announced his arrival as a new force in the men's 100m, taking a decisive gold.

Elsewhere, the men's high jump and 110m hurdles finals crowned new champions in Hamish Kerr of New Zealand and Cordell Tinch of the USA.

The fifth day continued the trend of thrilling finishes as Kenya's Faith Cherotich, 21, secured a huge victory in the women's 3000m steeplechase, adding another gold to the nation's tally.

In the men's 1500m, Portugal's Isaac Nader timed his race to perfection to take a surprise win, while in the field, USA's Katie Moon secured her third straight world title in the women's pole vault.

The battle will be between Neeraj Chopra, the defending world champion and one of the sport's biggest stars, Arshad Nadeem, the Olympic champion, and Julian Weber, the world leader. Julius Yego will also be in the mix, looking to roll back the years and add another medal to his legendary career.

The final of the men’s and women’s 400m race promises fireworks. The semi-finals saw blistering times, and the stage is set for a thrilling showdown.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the Olympic and world record holder in the 400m hurdles, will be competing in the flat 400m and is a massive favourite for the women's title. Marileidy Paulino, the Olympic champion, is a formidable opponent for McLaughlin-Levrone and will not give an inch.
