Xavi's agents meet with Deco to discuss sensational return to Barcelona after Flick loses key target
Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, recently met with the representatives of Xavi Simons to discuss the possibility of the midfielder's return to Barcelona.
The 22-year-old was a star at La Masia, bagging a Nike contract as a 13-year-old. He was billed for great things at Barcelona before leaving on controversial terms to join Paris Saint-Germain as a 16-year-old in 2019. He is now on the cards for a sensational return to his boyhood club.
The details
Barcelona's transfer window was thrown into more uncertainty after they missed out on Nico Williams—to Hansi Flick's dismay—who opted to remain at Athletic Club after initially agreeing to personal terms with the Blaugrana.
They have since been linked with Liverpool's Luis Diaz, Atalanta's Ademola Lookman, and Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, but have not made headway on any of the deals.
Spanish publication Sport reports that a new name has been added to the list of targets, Simons, an attacking midfielder who can also operate across the frontline.
Deco met with Simons’ agent Ali Barat and brother Fausto in a meeting reported to have lasted for 45 minutes. It is believed that the topic of conversation was the plausibility of a transfer.
Simons expects to leave Leipzig this summer, and his current transfer fee is estimated to be €70 million by Transfermarkt, a figure Deco would rather pay Liverpool for Diaz.
