The playful banter set the tone for a memorable day at Hill Dickinson Stadium, where Everton Legends secured a 2-0 win over AS Roma Legends, according to the club website.

Captained by Phil Jagielka, who opened the scoring with a trademark Leighton Baines header, the side was boosted by Steven Naismith’s goal following brilliant work from substitute Jose Baxter.

Among the familiar faces stepping back onto the pitch were Yakubu himself, Leighton Baines, Tony Hibbert, and of course, Steven Pienaar, the same player who left Yakubu red-faced during training.

Despite the teasing, Yakubu’s impressive career remains undeniable. With 95 EPL goals from 252 appearances for clubs including Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton, and Blackburn Rovers, he stands as the fourth-highest African goalscorer in Premier League history, just behind Didier Drogba’s 104 strikes.

All in all, the lighthearted nutmeg incident added a touch of fun to the celebrations, reminding fans of the camaraderie and spirited competition that has defined these beloved legends over the years.
