Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu appraised his performance in the defeat against Egypt
Despite the defeat to Egypt in the preparatory friendly ahead of the AFCON, Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu rated his performance, as well as the team's, highly.
Nigeria’s defeat to Egypt
As Pulse Sports reported, Nigeria were beaten in their AFCON 2025 preparatory friendly against Egypt. The Pharaohs edged the Super Eagles through a Mostafa Mohamed second-half strike to win 2–1.
Mahmoud Saber opened the scoring for Egypt before Chidozie Awaziem restored parity before half-time. Mostafa's goal was ultimately the winner, condemning Eric Chelle's side to consecutive defeats before the AFCON opener against Tanzania.
What Onuachu said
Trabzonspor forward, Onuachu, started in Osimhen's stead and played the full duration. While he did not score and picked up a yellow card, Onuachu stated that he performed admirably.
“I felt good playing against them, especially knowing that I had scored against Egypt in the past,” Onuachu said, per NaijaNews. “I had a good feeling during the game, and you could see that in my performance.
“I played with a lot of confidence and focused on playing my game. Unfortunately, we lost and the goal didn’t come this time, but I still felt good on the pitch.”
He also praised the performance of the team in the defeat, saying that, “I think both the team and I had a good game.”
Nigeria begin their AFCON journey on December 23, when they faced Egypt. Osimhen will expectedly return to the starting line-up for the game, while Onuachu assumes his deputy role.
