Uganda was drawn in Group C, alongside giants Mali and Senegal.

The Uganda Gazelles will play at this year’s FIBA Women’s Afrobasket.

What has been a mere rumour was confirmed Friday night when Uganda was listed among the teams qualified for the championship.

The tournament is set to be held in Kigali, Rwanda, between July 28 and August 6.

Uganda was drawn in Group C, alongside giants Mali and Senegal.

Alberto Antuna’s charges finished second in the Zone V Qualifiers to land the ticket, but FIBA had remained tight-lipped about Uganda’s qualification.

Rwanda, who are hosts and from the same Zone as Uganda, got automatic qualification, and it was rumoured Zone V would not get an extra ticket.

But Uganda’s performance, which included defeating Egypt in their second game, convinced FIBA Africa that the team was good enough for Afrobasket, hence handing Zone V another ticket.

Defending champions Nigeria were drawn in Group D alongside Egypt and DR Congo.

Hosts Rwanda will face Angola and the team that qualifies from Zone 2 while Cameroon, Mozambique and a wild card team will occupy Group B.
