The Cricket Cranes head coach Laurence Mahatlane says it's the right timing for his charges to return to action after the Namibia shortfall in July, where the side lost all their five games at the T20i series.

When they head to Kigali to defend the Twenty 20 East Africa Cup, Uganda will look to make a fresh start.

The Cricket Cranes head coach Laurence Mahatlane says it's the right timing for his charges to return to action after the Namibia shortfall in July, where the side lost all their five games at the T20i series.

"It's been a while since Namibia; we are looking forward to the East Africa tourney because it will help us prepare for the Africa Cup Qualifiers and also create an opportunity for players to gain more experience," Mahatlane told Pulse Sports.

"We learnt a lot from the Namibia experience; you learn more from tough situations than victories, challenges like losing Henry and Simon, and the injuries were tough, but younger players got exposure, something you can't buy."

"Robinson Obuya, Ronald Lutaaya and the U-19 players on the team didn't remain the same, so we must give players more international exposure and experience and better our Namibia performance."

Uganda will hope to retain the East Africa Cup they won last year when they face off against Rwanda, Ghana and Tanzania when the tournament gets underway in Rwanda.

The Cricket Cranes squad headed to Rwanda has some changes, including veteran Franco Nsubuga who was dropped for the first time since 2021, while Riazat Ali Shar and Juma Miyagi missed out due to injury.

Dinesh Nakrani also misses out due to family reasons, but Ronak Patel returns to the side as well as Roger Mukasa, Siraje Nsubuga and Jonathan Ssebanja.
