Manchester United are still in the market for a new midfielder after signing Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton remains content at Selhurst Park, despite transfer interest from Manchester United and Liverpool, according to reports.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder, one of the Premier League’s brightest young talents, has become a cornerstone of Oliver Glasner’s squad. Wharton’s blend of defensive solidity and attacking flair helped Palace secure their first major trophy, the FA Cup, last season.

Gareth Southgate included Wharton in England’s Euro 2024 squad, though fitness issues limited him to a single cap.

Manchester United’s Ruben Amorim, frustrated by a “lack of pace in the middle of the park” after a 0-0 pre-season draw with Leeds on Saturday, urged his club to target a new midfielder.

However, with three years left on his contract, Palace face no pressure to sell.

Should Wharton depart, the Eagles would demand over £70 million, and United are unlikely to spend that much on a midfielder this summer.

Wharton's teammate Eberechi Eze remains linked to Tottenham and Arsenal, but interest is starting to cool as the new season approaches.
