Atalanta defeated Monza at the Gewiss Stadium in their final match of the season with Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman making an impact.

Atalanta have already qualified for the Europa League next season and wanted to end the season with a win for their home fans.

They did not disappoint and gave their home fans something to cheer about by beating Monza 5-2 on the night.

Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman who has been a key player for Atalanta this season was left on the bench after recently returning from injury but he was brought in to make an impact and he provided an assist for a teammate.

Two first-half goals from Teun Koopmeiners gave Atalanta the advantage against Monza but Monza got a goal back in the early minute of the second half from Andrea Colpani but the home side showed superiority with three goals.

Rasmus Hojlund scored the third goal while Teun Koopmeiners scored the fourth to make it a hat trick and Luis Muriel scored the fifth goal. Monza could only salvage one more goal from Andrea Petagna.

As it happened

Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalata manager made two changes to his side that lost to Inter Milan last week with Ademola Lookman left on the bench while the Monza manager made three changes to his side that lost to Lecce.

Atalanta started the game brightly and scored the first goal in the 12th minute when Teun Koopmeiners latches on to a brilliant cross and gets his head on the ball to put it low inside the right post.

The home side continued piling the pressure and it was crowned with another goal in injury time of the first half when Teun Koopmeiners fired the rebound into the bottom right corner after the ball broke to him in the box.

Atalanta lead with a two-goal advantage as they head into the dressing room after the referee blew the halftime whistle.

The second half started and Monza got a goal back for themselves. In the 51st minute, Andrea Colpani received a precise pass and released an excellent long-range howitzer of a strike, which found its way into the net as it flew into the top right corner.

The game became intense as both teams got back-to-back red cards in the space of two minutes as Marlon and Gian Piero Gasperini received a marching order from the referee.

Atalanta did not relent as they added another goal in the 74th minute when Rasmus Hojlund scored after an assist by Teun Koopmeiners that allowed him to tap the ball into an empty net.

Shortly after, they scored the fourth goal when Teun Koopmeiners got to the ball and unleashed a strong shot from distance making it a hat trick for the forward.

Monza also got a goal for themselves when Andrea Petagna slotted the ball into an unguarded net from close range after a shot rebounded off a defender but the goal was not enough to save them from humiliation.

The home side crowned the night with another goal making it their fifth as Luis Muriel collected a good pass from Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman and without hesitation fired an unstoppable shot into the bottom right corner.

Atalanta were ruthless against Monza by putting five goals past them and finished the season in style.
