Uganda Cranes starboy Allan Okello has finally been unveiled by Tanzanian giants Yanga but what qualities does he bring to the Dar es Salaam-based club?
Vipers Sports Club has confirmed the departure of star midfielder Allan Okello, who was unveiled by Tanzanian powerhouse Young Africans SC (Yanga) on Monday.
The transfer marks the end of a highly successful and trophy-filled tenure for Okello at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Okello leaves the reigning Uganda Premier League champions after securing a domestic double. He was instrumental in Vipers' triumphs in both the 2024-25 Uganda Premier League and the Stanbic Uganda Cup, contributing to one of the most decorated seasons in the club's recent history.
With his departure to Yanga, what can the Dar es Salaam giants expect from the Uganda Cranes man?
Goals, Goals and More Goals
The 2024/25 campaign was a showcase of Okello's exceptional talent. The playmaker was in peak form, finishing as the Uganda Premier League's top scorer with 19 goals—a remarkable achievement for an attacking midfielder that highlights his decisive impact on the pitch.
During his two-and-a-half years with the club, Okello amassed an impressive record of 24 goals and 13 assists in 58 league appearances. He also contributed four goals and two assists in the Uganda Cup.
Proven on the Big Stage
Okello also made his mark in continental competition, representing Vipers in the 2025-26 CAF Champions League. His creativity, leadership, and composure were key as he helped guide the Venoms to the second preliminary round, consistently delivering standout performances under pressure.
After returning from Algerian club Paradou AC in September 2023, Okello quickly became the creative engine of the Vipers team. His vision, technical skill, and ability to perform in crucial moments endeared him to fans and established him as a leader.
With six months left on his contract, Vipers sanctioned the move, acknowledging his significant contributions and his ambition to pursue a new challenge.
Proper Professional
In Dar es Salaam, Okello joins a prestigious list of Ugandan players who have represented Young Africans, including Steven Bengo, Emmanuel Okwi, Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza, and Khalid Aucho. He arrives at Yanga as a high-profile signing with a proven track record of success at both club and international levels.
Just like the aforementioned, Okello is also level-headed, disciplined and a hard worker who puts the team first while his professionalism is not in doubt.
