As it happened

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti made five changes to his side that defeated Chelsea in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge while Carlos Carvalhal, manager of Celta Vigo made three changes to his side that lost last week to Mallorca.

The game started with much intensity from the home side as they tried to carve out chances in the first 20 minutes of the game. However, Celta Vigo held firm and limited Real Madrid's chances in the first half.

It took Madrid until the 42nd minute before they could register their first shot on target which also led to the opening goal. Dani Ceballos releases Vinicius Jr down the left and his pull-back finds Marco Asensio near the penalty spot who sweeps it first time left-footed into the net.

The second half started the same way they left off in the first half. Three minutes into the second half Real Madrid made it 2-0 with their second shot at goal. A corner was swung in by Marco Asensio and Eder Militao met the ball with a bullet header with Ivan Villar having no chance in the Celta Vigo goal.

Madrid kept the pressure on Celta Vigo but could not get the third goal of the night as the game ended in a 2-0 win for Real Madrid.
