Away from home, the Amavubi Stars played for over half an hour with a man less after Hakim Sahabo was sent for early showers at the Stade de l'Amitie on Wednesday.

Rwanda head coach Carlos Alos Ferrer feels his side fell just short of victory as they settled for a one-all stalemate with Benin in their third 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Away from home, the Amavubi Stars played for over half an hour with a man less after Hakim Sahabo was sent for early showers at the Stade de l'Amitie on Wednesday.

"I am not happy with the result," said Ferrer in his post-match reaction. "Because I think with 11 Vs 11, we would have been better, and we could take the three points."

The hosts found the leveller through Brest forward Steve Mounie in the 82nd minute to deny Rwanda their first victory of the qualifiers.

"It was difficult for us after the red card," the Spaniard assessed: "We knew that Benin is a very physical team when playing crosses with excellent strikers, and it was not easy."

Headed into their Sunday bout, Rwanda is third in Group L with two points, one ahead of Benin, who sit at the base.

"But we are still above Benin, and we will try to do better at home. I want to congratulate the players, who worked hard and did what I wanted," added the 47 year-old.

In the same group, leaders Senegal, with a maximum of six points, will host second-placed Mozambique (four) on Friday in a top of the group clash.
