England international Sancho joined Man United in 2021 for a £73 million (KSh 12.5 billion) deal from German club Borussia Dortmund, but failed to perform at United.

In September 2023, Sancho was banished from United's first team training after Ten Hag felt the winger was not training up to his abilities.

Sancho felt that was an excuse used by Ten Hag and the response saw the former Manchester City academy graduate sent out on loan to Dortmund.

Benni McCarthy worked closely with Sancho at Old Trafford having been part of United striker coach. He revealed that Sancho's streetwise upbringing made him not to admit his mistakes.

"If you are from the streets, no one wants to apologise because then you’re admitting you are not training well, you are lazy, everything you are accused of," McCarthy said according to Tuko.

"I spoke to Jadon as a coach, as a mentor, as a friend and as someone who grew up on the streets and knows the code. But Jadon just wasn’t seeing it. He said, 'I ain’t apologising because if I do, I’m apologising for being lazy, always being late and not giving my best. That’s what I’m apologising for'. And those were his reasons."

Sancho returned to United after his six-month loan spell came to an end. He was expected to be reintegrated into the first team but missed the opening two matches of the 2024-25 season.

Sancho was loaned out to Chelsea where he has scored four goals and provided 10 assists in 39 appearances.

The Blues have the obligation to make the deal permanent although there are reservations from certain quarters of the board still hesitating to make a decision.

Prior to his loan spell, Sancho made 83 appearances for the Red Devils, registering six goals and 12 assists in what was termed as underwhelming statistics considering his price tag.
