BetPawa Futsal Super League giants Park FC were in cruise control during the 2023/24 season’s awards ceremony at the Old Kampala Futsal Arena on Saturday evening courtesy of the competition’s headline sponsor BetPawa Uganda, the leading online betting company.

Park’s trio of Michael Abura, Brian Drileba, and Gibran Ndukuhire walked home as the Most Valuable Player (MVP), goalkeeper and defender of the season, respectively.

This campaign's FSL’s leading goal scorer Michael Lubowa who plies his trade with Lubaga Grameen was a double award winner, scoping the striker and playmaker of the season accolades.

This season, he also achieved a remarkable feat, becoming the first player in the competition’s history to score 50 goals in a single season, breaking Mike Sulaiman Mutyaba’s record of 48 goals.

It is also worth mentioning that Lubowa managed his tally of goals in 20 games, six games less than Mutyaba.

“Today is a special day for me and all the players representing the teams in our great Futsal league. We are honoured to have been part of this partnership,” Lubowa noted after receiving his awards.

Kisenyi FC’s head coach Sulaiman Sakanyo and Edgar FC’s Brian Olwa were the other winners on the day, bagging the manager and young player of the season awards, apiece.

At the awarding gala, BetPawa Uganda’s Country Manager Ivy Igunduura recognized the efforts of the 12 clubs and their sportsmanship.

“This season of futsal has been extremely exciting and with the work that all teams put in to make the game more entertaining and professional, it was only befitting that we recognise their efforts.”

A sum of UGX 167.5 million was spent on Locker Room bonuses courtesy of BetPawa who also directly contributed to refurbishment of the Old Kampala Futsal Arena on top of providing news kits, balls and a digital watch.

Therefore, Futsal Association of Uganda President, Hamzah Jjunju could only appreciate the sponsor during his post season remarks.

“We have had a season where, through digitisation, disputes were a thing of the past because of the digital clock which was used professionally to keep the track of time per match.

“We also thank BetPawa for the Locker Room Bonus initiative, a first of its kind, where match day squad players of the winning team get a bonus for triumphing in every fixture.

“This was the first such bonus in Uganda where players get direct and instant benefits when they win after every match.”

On the same day, Park defeated Kisenyi 7-5 to win the Futsal Super Cup, completing a domestic treble. They had earlier won the BetPawa Futsal Super League and the Futsal Uganda Cup.
